Celebrating national landscape heroesJanuary’s Member of the Month is Greener Fram, who have brought themselves back from the brink, and grown from strength to strength.
newsOriginally founded in 2008, by May 2024, Greener Fram was on the verge of dissolution and had five members. To combat this, the group set up a reboot meeting in July, hosting events on climate change, resource depletion and low carbon lifestyles. The group now have twenty-five members, spanning ages 18-70, with half taking significant environmental action.
Greener Fram are aiming to help the community in Framlingham move away from fossil fuels, and understand the power of collective living to move to a lower carbon lifestyle.
On their reboot, David Greenacre, co-chair of Greener Fram, said:
“Since rebooting in July 2024, we are new to the community network. However, part of Greener Fram is building networks and partnerships, as together we can drive positive change. We have links with the Transition Network, and will be going to the National Assembly in February, plus we are planning a gathering of Transition and like groups in East Suffolk later this year.”
Greener Fram have tips for others involved in groups that are rebooting:
“Having a clear vision with practical steps that anyone can take, along with being positive, can make a huge difference. Start with low-hanging fruit, as this is where you can easily make a change and is the easiest place to begin.”
The group are looking at growing in 2025, with a series of events. In February, the group are taking part in the Suffolk Climate Change Partnership’s popular “Keep the Heat” scheme, allowing residents of Framlingham and the surrounding area to have their house examined with a thermal imaging camera. The group are aiming to reach 40-50 houses. Later in the Spring, the group are planning their “A Splash of Colour” projects, where members will be sowing wildflowers around Framlingham, in collaboration with East Suffolk Council.
