This month, we’re shining a light on Rebecca Elston-Haynes, the newest member of the Suffolk Climate Action Team.

Describing her role, Rebecca says

“As the Schools Sustainability Lead within the Suffolk Climate Change Partnership, I am responsible for co-ordinating the Suffolk Sustainable Schools Network (SUSSN) and for driving initiatives that support schools in to plan and deliver their climate action plans. I love working with educators to drive sustainability in schools and support young people in developing resilience against the impacts of climate change.”

Currently Suffolk Councils are funding projects to support secondary schools to decarbonise and enhance biodiversity. Firstly, schools can access free energy audits that help identify significant carbon and money saving opportunities. You can sign up here. Suffolk Councils are also organising free carbon literacy training for school leaders and can provide whole staff training on carbon awareness. Click here for free carbon literacy. Over the next 6 months we will also be launching a project to help schools enhance their biodiversity onsite.

We would love to welcome secondary school staff to join Suffolk’s Sustainable School Network. Sign up here: https://forms.office.com/e/G4PA6MiBDm.

If you know someone connected to a secondary school, please ask them to get in touch about our free energy audits and carbon literacy at sussn@suffolk.gov.uk.

We are looking to support primary schools in the next few months with a new project. If you know a school that might be interested in a whole school initiative for sustainability, please ask them to contact Becca at sussn@suffolk.gov.uk.
