Every September thousands of people across the UK head to the coast to take part in the Great British Beach Clean, a week-long citizen science event, where hundreds of beach cleans take place up and down the UK.
The Coast & Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) team organises events throughout the year for Beachwatch volunteers, with special events organised during the Great British Beach Clean.
This year’s event is taking place between Friday 16th – Sunday 25th September 2022 and there will be two AONB-organised beach cleans taking place for AONB-registered volunteers at the following dates/venues:
- Friday 16th September 2022 – RSPB Havergate Island
- Tuesday 20th September 2022 – Bawdsey Point
These two events are only open to AONB-registered volunteers. To register as an AONB volunteer, please complete our registration form. Once you have registered, you can register your interest in these two beach cleans by emailing AONB Countryside Projects Officer Neil Lister at neil.lister@suffolk.gov.uk.
In addition to the two events above, there are also a number of other Great British Beach Clean events you can take part in without needing to register as an AONB volunteer.
You can use the Marine Conservation Society’s website to search for your nearest event.
