This session will look at what the government’s carbon targets are for the UK and what we need to do in practical terms to achieve them with new ways for designing buildings. We will cover how we assess the carbon emissions in buildings and what practical steps can be taken to reduce them.

Simon Sturgis AADip RIBA: Co-Author of RICS and RIBA guidance on Whole Life Carbon, Co-Author of Greater London Authority Policy Guidance on WLC, and Special Advisor to the Environmental Audit Select Committee. Simon will set the context in terms of UK National Policy and what it means for new build and achieving net zero for both planning and construction.
Dr Joe Jack Williams MEng MRes EngD: Associate at FCBStudios and lead developer of FCBSCarbon the carbon assessment tool. Joe Jack will discuss low carbon construction referencing LETI guidance, and explain the free FCBSCarbon assessment Tool.
Jess Hrivnak: RIBA’s Sustainable Development Advisor. Jess will describe the RIBA’s thinking on achieving Net Zero and the Net Zero Roadmap for the built environment industry referencing housing.
