The Friston Surface Water Management Plan (SWMP) is a detailed study of surface water flood risk in the area. This has been achieved using a digital hydraulic model which is able to predict how water behaves in various storm events. We have used the flood event from the 6th October 2019 to verify the accuracy of this model, and ensure that the predictions that it makes are realistic and accurate. Our model extent stretches over the entire surface water catchment which enables us to gain a better understanding of risk across the whole area, rather than just Friston village in isolation. The SWMP is a tool which can be used to assess current risk, inform planning decisions, and identify what could be done to reduce flood risk in the area. Full details of the information and methodology used in the SWMP can be found in the reporting.
