This year has seen great progress in Suffolk’s aspiration to achieve net zero emissions by 2030. Let’s look back at some of the key achievements made across the work of the Suffolk Climate Emergency Plan, from the last 12 months.
The Suffolk Climate Emergency Plan (SCEP), is an ambitious plan developed to drive Suffolk towards net zero emissions by 2030. This plan has been agreed by Suffolk’s Public Sector Leaders, and supports the county’s commitment to tackling the climate emergency. It is designed for use by everyone living, working and visiting Suffolk and is implemented by all public sector organisations across the county.
JANUARY
Programme management resource put in place to support the Suffolk Climate Change, Environment and Energy Board in driving forward delivery of the SCEP on behalf of Suffolk’s public sector leaders.
Local Energy Assets Representation report published, with comprehensive area level data to support project work.
FEBRUARY
SCEP theme delivery groups formed, comprising key officers from across the Suffolk system, to drive priority action delivery through Collaborative Action, Sustainable Homes, Industrial & Commercial Energy Use, Low Carbon Transport and Cleaner Power.
Low Impact Living campaign launched to help residents make informed low-carbon choices, complimenting our Warm Homes Suffolk campaign and offer.
MARCH
New Suffolk Climate Change Partnership Manager joins us, to ensure continued delivery of Suffolk-wide project work.
East Suffolk Council Community Partnership Annual Forum includes a session on community solutions to the climate emergency.
APRIL
First tranche of funding approved by Suffolk’s public sector leaders to deliver a range of projects across each of the five key themes of the climate emergency plan.
MAY
SCEP stakeholder event held, bringing over 60 delegates from the business, community, public and voluntary sectors together to help inform delivery priorities.
Net Zero Toolkit published to support an ambitious approach to low carbon housing development across the county.
JUNE
Climate Emergency Dashboard published to the Suffolk Observatory to track delivery progress via key theme indicators.
Suffolk Climate Action Community Match Funder of £150,000 launched to support community carbon reduction projects.
JULY
New Communications & Engagement Officer joins us, to help us maximise our reach across Suffolk society.
Launch of SCEP Net Zero Business Advisor service delivered through the Carbon Charter in partnership with Groundwork East.
AUGUST
£1.5mn Social prescribing funding awarded to support active travel and improve physical and mental wellbeing.
£1.3mn Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Fund award to support Suffolk charge point network improvements.
SEPTEMBER
Suffolk’s public sector leaders unanimously back a new Fuel Poverty Retrofit team to support residents who are struggling to heat their homes, pledging £366,000 with a further £390,000 of funding underwritten.
Latest Solar Together Suffolk campaign launches, helping residents access high quality solar PV and battery installations.
OCTOBER
Suffolk retrofit conference held, bringing together delegates from across the industry to share best practice in tackling the retrofit challenge.
Community Thermal Imaging camera loan service launched by the Suffolk Climate Change Partnership, and fully subscribed until completion.
NOVEMBER
Heat network feasibility study delivered at Heating Bildeston project.
Relaunch of Suffolk Sustainability Institute and launch of University of Suffolk DigiTech Smart House project.
Second tranche of funding approved by Suffolk’s public sector leaders, which will deliver a range of projects across each of the five key themes of the climate emergency plan.
DECEMBER
Net Zero Living: Pioneer Places project bid submitted, to develop detailed local plans for innovative approaches to unlock non-technical systemic barriers to the delivery of net zero targets.
